Pure Rainforest Chocolate
Our friends at OlsenFarmFiji (OFF), Jytte & Michael Olsen, invested in 2008 in a piece of rainforest in the eastern part of the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu, about two hours drive from Suva, the capitol. A neglected area that, by hard work and considerable investments, today contains a well-functioning cocoa plantation and a self-build house, self-supplying with energy and water from a creek.
The daily work in the plantation is done with very little machinery, a machete or small brushcutters, worked by adult fijians. The men are in charge of trimming the rainforest, so it doesn’t smother the cocoatrees but still provides shade for them. These trees belong to the cocoa group Forastero,
When we call our chocolate handmade, we mean it! We have had every single bean in our hands. Making high quality chocolate is a long process. We work with passion and love to create a gourmet product.
We are also proud to support the employment on our island, as it is a local transporter, BHS Logistics, that takes care of shipping the cocoabeans from Fiji to Bornholm.
